Aussie young gun Thanasi Kokkinakis won his 1st Grand Slam match after a gap of 4 years to seal a meeting with Rafael Nadal on Thursday.
Aussie fans witnessed some of the talents which made Kokkinakis one of the best juniors at the US Open to beat Belarusian qualifier Ilya Ivashka 6-3 7-6 6-7 6-2.
Thanasi Kokkinakis says he is all set to cause Rafael Nadal problems in their US Open 2nd round clash on Thursday.
However Kokkinakis has fought badly with injury in recent years and has entered the US Open as a wildcard.
And to get a 2nd win, he will need to upset Nadal for the first time.
It was more than evident that Nadal was domineering in his opening match against Kokkinakis’ compatriot John Millman.
But Kokkinakis has no doubt that he is capable of pulling off an upset.
“I give myself a chance for sure.
It’s not going to be easy though – very physical but I’m all set” Kokkinakis said.
Speaking post the Millman win, Nadal acknowledged he was wary of ‘dangerous’ Kokkinakis.
