Two more children on the cards for Serena Williams
Serena Williams wants to have at least two more children, but for the present the former world No 1 is happy to concentrate on her tennis & bringing up her 1st daughter Olympia.
“I have apparently thought of having additional kids, & it will happen in time, God willing,” Williams said post her 6-0 4-6 6-3 victory over Kaia Kanepi at the US Open 2018. “After Olympia, then maybe I’ll do the subsequent 2, God willing, close to each other.
“Right now it’s not time yet since I’m rational about playing tennis & enjoying this time with Olympia. & then hopefully I’ll have abundance of time in the future to hopefully add to that.”
Williams, who will have to battle against Karolina Pliskova in the quarter-finals on Tuesday, added: “I feel that parenthood is definitely the best thing that’s happened to me. I enjoy every moment of it. I didn’t think I would relish it so much.”
The 23-times Grand Slam champ said her appetite for success was as boundless as ever. “It would be delightful to win a Grand Slam while having a daughter, but it’s a lot of effort,” she said. “It takes a lot of exertion to win those competitions. I’m only in my third one back. I’m going to endure to grind & see what ensues.
Williams might be heading for an all-American faceoff with Sloane Stephens in the semi-finals. Stephens, who beat Elise Mertens 6-3 6-3 in the 4th round, first has to defeat Latvia’s Anastasija Sevastova, who shattered Elina Svitolina 6-3 1-6 6-0.
Svitolina’s departure means that Stephens & Pliskova are the only to seeded players left in the women’s singles. Stephens defeated Sevastova in last year’s quarter-finals & went on to take the title.
