33-year-old Cristiano Ronaldo ‘s lawyer, Peter S. Christiansen, informed BBC Sport it was a “very normal request”.

The Wall Street Journal had earlier reported that the warrant was dispatched as standard protocol to the court system in Italy.

Ronaldo rejects assaulting Kathryn Mayorga in 2009 at a Las Vegas hotel. He maintains that their interaction was consensual.

“Mr Ronaldo has continually maintained, as he continues to do so today, that what happened in Las Vegas in 2009 was consensual in nature, so it is not shocking that DNA would be present, nor that the police would make this very regular request as fragment of their inquiry,” said Christiansen’s statement.

Der Spiegel , a German weekly news magazine, which first exposed this story in October, has reported that Ms Mayorga filed a report with Las Vegas police shortly after the unproven incident.

Der Spiegel further revealed that in 2010, she supposedly reached an out-of-court understanding with Ronaldo involving a $375,000 (£288,000) pay out for agreeing never to go public with the accusations.

Her lawyers are now in process of declaring the non-disclosure contract void.

Ronaldo’s attorney had earlier said his client does not refute entering an agreement but that the motives that led him to do so are being portrayed in an inaccurate manner.

Team Paandu is of the view that: “This arrangement is by no means an admission of guilt.”
