What led to the Woolsey Fire – Camp Fire – Hill Fire
Almost 50 deaths have been reported so far on account of the California fires which is ripping through densely populated areas in the US state leaving thousands of people homeless. The question that is on everyone’s mind: What led to the Camp Fire, Woolsey Fire and Hill Fire?
Enormous areas of California have been burned to ashes since a range of wildfires started last week. Currently in excess of 200,000 acres of land has been entirely blackened and over 7000 residents have been forced to flee their homes to escape the fast spreading inferno. So far 50 people have lost their lives by the gigantic Camp Fire raging in Northern California with more than 200 people are still unaccounted for. And the death toll is probably going to rise in the coming days as firefighters and support crews endure to save as many individuals and as much land as possible.
The Californian climate offers perfect weather condition for the spread of such wildfires in the state.
The blend of dry and windy air and high temperatures trigger and feed the fires from spring through late autumn.
The dry breezes, known as Diablo winds when they arise in Northern California and Santa Ana winds when they happen in the southern part of the state, regularly fans or make the wildfires more lethal than they would be elsewhere.
However, even though the environment is conducive for a wildfire the fire cannot just start on it’s own. Something or someone must have intentionally or unintentionally triggered it to start.
What led to the Woolsey Fire?
What led to the Woolsey Fire has not yet been established and is still under investigation.
However, Southern California Edison (electricity supply company) told authorities an electrical circuit had an outage in the vicinity where the Woolsey Fire originated.
There is presently no suggestion from officials the electrical circuit may have been the root cause.
However, the company did say the blaze was informed around 2.24pm local time on Thursday, November 8th, only 2 minutes post the outage.
What led to the Woolsey Fire
Mark Lorenzen (Venture County Fire Chief) voiced his opinion stating that the winds may have caused equipment failure that sparked a fire.
What led to the Camp Fire?
The source of the Camp Fire is also still under examination but, as in the Woolsey Fire, power equipment in the area is being investigated as a probable cause.
To reiterate this theory the San Francisco energy company Pacific Gas & Electric Co. (PG&E) reported that on Friday a high-voltage power line near the source point had experienced a problem about the same time the blaze was first seen.
What caused Hill Fire?
The reason for the Hill Fire has not yet been established.
However, state officials are looking into numerous circumstances which could provide a glimpse of circumstances near the origin of the fire.
The Hill Fire has been contained almost totally at this point in time.
