Edmund Opens Up About Playing Djokovic – Kyle Edmund will face on Wednesday the tough task of handing World No. 1 Novak Djokovic his first loss of the season.
The previous World No. 14 knows that springing the upset within the 2nd round of the US Open is going to be just short of a miracle.
“It’s the toughest match on the road, rankings, form, everything really. He’s the guy int he form of his life, and he is the guy to beat,” Edmund said of Djokovic. “It’s posied to be a really tough match for so many reasons. Also it poses as an excellent opportunity for me to ascertain where I’m at with my game.”
With that said, the Briton knows that thre is going to overwhelming support towrds Djokovic. The Serbian is chasing his 18th slam title and fresh off winning the Western & Southern Open.
Edmund feels that all the pressure is on Novak as he is the strong favorite and is expected to win. That phrase, ‘go and have a free hit’ is okay, but you can’t just get there and swing,” Edmund said. “Just swinging can’t get you anywhere against a player of Djokovic’s calibre.”
Edmund has beaten Djokovic before, defeating the Serbian in three sets at the 2018 Mutua Madrid Open. Although he trails their ATP Head2Head series 1-5, the 25-year-old will believe that have to re-live and re-deploy the tactics he utilised at that fateful Madrid Open game.
