Ada Hegerberg’s Ballon d’Or Marred by Male Chauvinism | Andy Murray Appalled By Sexist Request
Many of the elite and mainly male audience were stunned at DJ Martin Solveig’s choice of words or rather the questions itself when he interviewed the Norwegian soccer star at the Ballon d’Or.

The inaugural Women’s Ballon d’Or was awarded to Ada Hegerberg, who plays for the Norwegian national team and French club Lyon at the landmark ceremony in Paris.
Co-host and DJ Martin Solveig presented the award to the 23-year-old and he was also the person who asked if she would twerk. ‘The twerk’ he was referring to was the sexually provocative dance move popularized by singer Miley Cyrus.
Hegerberg, the champion of her club and the architect of their stellar performance at the Women’s Champions League last season, looked uncomfortable and retorted, “No.”
Martin Solveig’s question left many in the mainly male audience looking visibly dumbfounded.
When Hegerberg turned to walk away, Solveig called her back her to dance to Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon”, which the pair did for a few seconds.
Solveig later apologized after being slammed at by Twitter users.
British two-time Wimbledon winner and Olympic double gold medalist Andy Murray, who has always spoken out about sports sexism, stated his support for Hegerberg.
He took to social media to express his thoughts. His post on Instagram read: “Why do woman [sic] still have to endure this s—?”
The coveted Ballon d’Or award was initiated in 1956 and traditionally was given to the best male player as nominated by soccer journalists. This year the women’s football category of this award was inaugurated.
