Actor Irrfan Khan spent his final moments in Mumbai’s Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital on Wednesday 29th April 2020.

The actor’s representative said in a statement, “‘I trust I have surrendered’ – These were the initial words that Irrfan expressed in an emotional note when he broke the news about his fight with cancer.

And a man of limited words and an artist of subtle expressions with his intense eyes and his unique actions on screen. It’s heart breaking that this day, we have to share the information of him passing away.

Irrfan was a powerful soul, someone who battled till the very end and always motivated everyone who came close to him. After having been diagnosed in 2018 with the news of a rare cancer, he took life as it came and he foght the many battles that came with the terminal ailment. Amidst all his loved ones, he left for heaven’s abode, leaving behind truly a heritage of his own. We all pray and wish that he is at peace. And to echo his words, ‘As if I was get a taste of life for the first time, the enchanting side of it.’”

Irrfan came into the ICU on April 28 following a colon infection. However, the actor’s health deteriorated rapidly, and he passed away on April 29.

Irrfan Khan’s condition had been on the drop ever since he was detected with neuroendocrine cancer in 2018. He had been travelling to the United Kingdom regularly for treatment. Irrfan was even unable to promote his last film, Angrezi Medium, due to ill health.

Irrfan made his first screen appearance in the 1988 Mira Nair directorial Salaam Bombay. After trying for many years, success came to him after he starred in Asif Kapadia’s The Warrior (2001). Irrfan went on to star in several highly praised films such as Haasil, Maqbool, Life in a Metro, The Lunchbox, Haider, Piku, Paan Singh Tomar and Talvar. The actor was also known for his work in international projects like The Darjeeling Limited, Slumdog Millionaire, The Namesake, Life of Pi and Jurassic World among more.
Irrfan Khan won four Filmfare awards and a National award and. In 2011, The actor was honoured with the Padma Shri by the Indian government for his significant contribution to arts and cinema. Respected by critics as well as the audience, Irrfan had been often lauded for his versatility and effortless performances.

Irrfan is survived by his two children, Babil and Ayan and his wife Sutapa Sikdar.
