7 Odhisa Elephants Electrocuted | Elephant Deaths Due To Man Made Causes

In India the statistics show that there is an Elephant death every 4 days due to man made causes. Yes this is shocking and none of the authorities seem to be worried about this. Is the Government turning a blind eye? What will make this change?

The unfortunate and terrible incident took place when the herd of thirteen elephants was moving toward a canal road from a nearby paddy field.

Seven elephants died after running into a sagging electric wire in Odisha’s Dhenkanal on Friday. This is the largest fatality of elephants in a solitary incident in Odisha.

This herd of 13 elephants was fleeting through the village in Sadar Forest Range and 7 of them came in contact with an 11-KV line as confirmed by the Assistant Conservator of Forest Jitendranath Das.

The seven carcasses including a tusker and 5 female elephants, were spotted in the morning by the locals from the village and promptly informed forest officials.

While 3 corpses were lying on a road, 4 others were inside a canal.

Senior forest administrators including Divisional Forest Officer of Dhenkanal Sudarsan Patra and ACF Das swift reached the spot and made preparations for shifting the carcasses, as reported by a forest official.

Another representative said the forest department had advised the energy department to direct the agency concerned to guarantee that the electric wire is raised to a height of 17-18 feet above the ground with immediate effect.

The environment ministry statistics reveal that 655 elephant deaths took place in India from 2009 to 2017. When interpreted properly this implies that an average of about 80 elephant deaths occur per year, 7 every month and shockingly one every four days. The main causes for such high elephant deaths are electrocution, train accidents, poaching and poisoning.
