Good Chances for a win at the USA Grand Prix | Lewis Hamilton Fifth World Championship Title
LEWIS Hamilton cautioned Ferrari and challenger Sebastian Vettel to be ready for him as he would be firing all guns despite recent poor results.
The truth is that Vettel may be too far back to land anything of major impact to deny a win as Lewis Hamilton pursues his fifth Formula One championship.
Hamilton pushed his Mercedes to his 81st career pole position with a scorching track-record lap of 1 minute, 32.237 seconds in Austin at the Circuit of the Americas on Saturday.
Vettel was a mere .061 seconds behind. But instead of starting Austin race from second with a real chance to make it a contest, Vettel will start from 5th because of a 3-spot grid penalty issued Friday when race officers said the German driver drove too fast while under a red flag in a practice session.
That opening could be just big enough to assure Hamilton a 5th champions win. Hamilton is ahead of Vettel by 67 points and any outcome Sunday that puts him 8 or more points ahead of Vettel seals the title.
If Hamilton comes out victorious, Vettel must clock no longer than a second behind to keep the contest alive next week into the Mexican Grand Prix. A fifth title would draw the British driver with Argentina’s Juan Manuel Fangio, who also won 5 championships in the 1950s. Germany’s Michael Schumacher embraces the Formula One greatest record with 7 wins.
