Was the Queen consulted before Prince Harry & Meghan named their daughter Lilibet Diana?
The question being asked is did Prince Harry & Duchess Meghan consult his grandmother the queen before conferring her childhood nickname, Lilibet, on their new born daughter?
The couple’s unending battle with the British media & with their critics within Buckingham Palace’s senior courtier corps triggered Harry & Meghan to come out with a rare announcement on Wednesday insisting – differing to a report by the BBC – that they did actually discuss the baby’s name with Queen Elizabeth II before the name was proclaimed.

A representative for the couple told USA TODAY that the queen was encouraging when Prince Harry shared the name with her ahead of time & the couple would not have done so if there was any objection.
Prince Harry & Duchess Meghan in their extraordinary announcement said that contrary to a report by the BBC, they did talk about their new baby’s name with Queen Elizabeth II before the name was revealed.
The BBC, which has already been at the receiving end of Harry’s anger over its “dishonest” & now-dented 1995 interview with Princess Diana, reported Wednesday that the Sussexes had not discussed with Her Majesty, citing a single unnamed palace source.

Harry & Meghan revealed on their charity website that the baby will be called “Lili,” short for Lilibet, which was what the queen called herself when she was a child & couldn’t say the word Elizabeth. It was embraced by her close family, including her grandad, father & husband, as her nickname growing up.
Lili’s other name, Diana, honours her late grandmother, Princess Diana. Like her brother Archie, her surname will be Mountbatten-Windsor. Lili is 8th in line to the throne behind her brother & father.
